Fire rescue personnel have located the body of a 17-year-old boy who went missing Friday while swimming with friends at Haena Beach in Puna.
A Hawaii County helicopter conducting an aerial search Saturday morning spotted the body on the shoreline fronting Shipman Estates, according to the Hawaii Fire Department. The boy had been reported missing Friday afternoon when he was apparently swept out of the bay while swimming with friends.
Police are investigating the death, according to the department. The boy’s identity was not immediately available.
